Sport and PE

Welcome to Montalbo Primary School’s Sport and PE Page.

Here you will find information about recent and forthcoming events and festivals. Over the academic year, we aim to provide all children with the opportunity to participate in fun and competitive sporting activities.

School Games

Many of our competitive events are linked to the School Games and lead to other qualifying competitions. We are also part of the Staindrop Academy Sports Alliance.

Recent News and Results:

September 2020

We have planned some excellent dance and multi skills activities for pupils to the start of the academic year. We will be having a key focus on PSHE and Outdoor Learning to ensure that pupils maintain their active 30+ minutes per day and that they are supported in all areas of wellbeing. Classes have their own designated ‘bubbles’ and they will have access to a range of active playground equipment. Children are welcome to come to school in their PE kit on their timetabled days, this helps to keep us all safe and in the correct learning zones.

July 2020

We have been awarded the School Games Gold Award for 2019/2020. We are proud to continue the wide range of sporting activities available to our pupils. It has been challenging to provide PE lessons during these tricky times, but our pupils have enjoyed socially distanced activities like dance, fitness and yoga. Well done!

February 2020

Class 5 are attending Trampolining Lessons at Staindrop Academy on February 11th. Keep a look out for photos coming soon. Year 5 are also attending the Staindrop Academy Partnership Netball competition on Wednesday 12th February at Aycliffe Leisure Centre.

January 2020

We have 2 Cross Country events coming up soon! Children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 will be selected to take part. We need athletes with excellent levels of stamina and those who are not afraid of mud! Cross Country is a great event that tests the determination of even the fittest young sports people. We look forward to sharing our results with you… in the past, we have even had some Monty winners!

December 2019

Our School Games Swimming Gala teams have been selected! Look out for letters coming home in children’s bags. The event will take place on 31st January at Woodhouse Close Leisure Centre.

September 2019

Welcome back to the new academic year. We have a whole range of activities and sports competitions planned for 2019/2020. We already have our football, cheerleading and gymnastics after school clubs up and running!

Our first School Games event will be the swimming gala in January so we will keep you updated with this!

We have 3 Staindrop academy events planned including a multiskills festival and games competitions. We also hope to set up some intra-school competitions in our local area.

Year 6 have been busy completing their Bikeability sessions and are doing well with this. We hope to have as many children as possible receiving  their Bike Safety award on Wednesday.

January 2019

We are looking forward to the new year. We have entered two Sainsbury’s School Games events.

  1. Wear Valley and Teesdale XC Running Event @ Bishop Auckland College (1st March)
  2. Key Steps Gymnastics (6th March)

December 2018

We held a fantastic inter school dance competition this week. All classes took part (that’s 100% of our children performing!) in a ‘dance off’ where each class selected a piece of music linked to time eras. Everyone really enjoyed watching the dances… especially when some of the teachers joined in!

November 2018

We have been very busy taking part in Reception and EYFS sports festivals and also our local area competitions at Staindrop Academy School.

June 2018

Yesterday we attended the School Games QuadKids Athletics. We had 24 children taking part and they all did very well. One of our competitors even gained the silver athletics award. Children ran faster and jumped further than others in the past, and it has certainly set some new Montalbo records. Well done to everyone who attended. Hopefully we will have qualified for Level 3 School Games!

January 2018

Today we went to the Sainsbury’s School Games Swimming Gala at Woodhouse Leisure Centre. The competition was very strong but we had some excellent races! Everyone who attended the gala really tried their best and we even had a winner in Year 6! The children from our school were a real delight to take to the gala. They cheered for their peers and were fantastic, supportive competitors. Mr Foster and I were very impressed with everyone who attended. Well done.

October 2017

Year 4 successfully took part in the Staindrop Tag Rugby festival held at Staindrop Academy School. They used the good skills that they had learnt over the last 7 weeks. Year 5/6 attended the Staindrop Sports Festival and had a fantastic time on their carousel of activities! They thoroughly enjoyed the team relay races and also the shoot out games in the sports hall.

October 2017

We had a great time at the Sainsbury’s School Games Tag Rugby Festival! We took 2 teams and Team 1 battled their way to 3rd overall! Team 2 won one of their trickiest matches and held on to 7th place. Well done to everyone who took part. We are now looking forward to the sports hall athletics events in the new year.

September 2017

We are looking forward to the new Sainsbury’s School Games Year. Our Key Stage 2 Classes have started their tag rugby PE lessons in preparation for the competition in November. Our daily Monty Mile is also up and running! This will help our cross country runners prepare for their up and coming competitions.

June 2017

Sainsbury’s School Games KS2 Cricket Competition – A mixed team of boys and girls went to compete at Barnard Castle Cricket Club. There was very strong competition but our team managed to win a game! Well done to all those who attended.

June 2017

Sainsbury’s School Games Girl’s Cricket Competition – a very rainy day! Our Year 6 girls attended the event and participated in a bowling competition due to the poor weather conditions. They did very well and are now looking forward to the mixed team event next week.

May 2017

Quad Kids Athletics – Another brilliant event for our children to attend. It was a warm day and everyone did really well to compete at their best. We had two race winners including Oscar and Adele who both won their heat in the 600m race. Throughout the day there were many good results for long jump and hurler throw. We hope to have some qualifiers for the County Athletics event next month.
