My name is Sarah O’Doherty. I grew up in Appleby, Cumbria, and moved to Barnard Castle in 2004 with my husband, Johno. We soon had 3 children, all of who, in time, started Nursery at Montalbo School as it offered that small, nurturing environment with a high quality education. My eldest daughter is currently in Y7. She loved her time at Montalbo. My other two girls are currently in Key Stage 2, they enjoy their days at Montalbo, are thriving and happy.
I became a parent governor in 2014. In July 2018 I became a co-opted governor. I am currently Chair of the Governing Body. I sit on many different committees. I am Chair of the Finance, Premises and Staffing Committee, the Appeals Committee and the Head Teacher’s Performance Committee. I additionally sit on the Curriculum, Standards, Behaviour and Safety Committee. I also have a responsibility for Looked After Children, Previously Looked After Children, Key Stage 2, Science and I am the designated Safeguarding Governor.
In addition to my interest as a parent who wants the best for her children, my background is Education. I have been a secondary school science teacher for over 20 years. My interest as a Governor is ensuring the Head Teacher serves the community, and strives towards an outstanding education for all students at Montalbo School. It is my intention that I, and all the governing body, support the Head Teacher allowing him to establish the clear vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school that allows the children to reach their full potential in a stimulating and rewarding environment.
