Our main topic for the first half term has been meerkats! We have gone meerkat mad! It started when a meetkat called Sunny appeared in our classroom. He had come all the way from the Kalahari Desert with a book called Meerkat Mail.
In English we took Sunny for an adventure around our new school and wrote postcards to his family to let them know he was safe. We also created our own meerkats and wrote a story about them. Then we wrote a report all about meerkats.
In Science we investigated the offspring of humans and meerkats and compared the similarities and differences. To find out about the offspring of humans a real baby came into school to see us!
We also looked at the life cycle of a butterfly. We had our very own caterpillars and watched them transform into butterflies.
In Geography we used an atlas to find out where Sunny had come from. We found out he was from the Kalahari Desert which was in South Africa.
To finish off our topic we went to Butterfly World to see the butterflies and meerkats! It was brilliant, although it was very hot!
While we were there we played in the park and visited Preston Park Museum.
Year 1 and 2 had a joint Autumn day where we made hedgehogs, suncatchers, leaf men and leaf weaves.
Then we played in the leaves.
